Anthony Paolucci makes the cut at Farmers Insurance Open
La Jolla County Day senior, Anthony Paolucci, posted a 71 in the second round and securely made the cut in the Farmers Insurance Open.
Having a total of three under after two days, Paolucci played well enough to make the cut in his first PGA Tour event.
The 2010 Rolex Player of the year, Anthony, was very excited for his first ever professional golf tournament. The eighteen year old received a sponsor’s exemption invitation for the event and hence decided to play in the field full of amazing players.
A lot of great players like Rocco Mediate, Phil Mickelson, and Bill Haas and of course Tiger Woods are playing at Torrey Pines this weekend.
Playing on the South Course in the opening round, the player did well on the front nine as he posted four birdies and one bogey. His performance got strained a bit on the back nine holes when the player hit three consecutive bogeys on the 10th,
11th and 12th hole.
Making a birdie on the thirteenth hole, Anthony made another bogey on the fifteenth. Making two more birdies, the player finished at two under in the first round.
In the second round, his front nine on the North course wasn’t too impressive mainly due to the double bogey on the sixth hole.  Even though he made two birdies, he still had some work to do on the back nine. Starting off with a bogey on the eleventh, the
player picked up the pace as he made birdies on the fourteenth and eighteenth hole. After that birdie, Paolucci was confident that he has made the cut for the third round.
“I just knew if I just kept playing solid I would have a really good chance of making it”, he said. “It is pretty special. I’ll probably go celebrate a little bit tonight but I have a tee time tomorrow morning so I have to get ready for that and just go
from there”.
Anthony’s dad, Mike Paolucci was very proud of his son. Mike thought that a few more breaks and who knows, his son could have shot a much lower score.
He also said that Anthony had three more putts that could have easily dropped, but it doesn’t really matter. The important thing is that the young player gets to play two more rounds at the professional level.
As for the tournament, Bill Haas is leading the Farmers Insurance Open at 11 under.
