Anthony Parsons cruises past Jamie O'Neill in 2011 Q School Event 2
Englishman, Anthony Parsons defeated compatriot Jamie O’Neill with a close score line of 4-3 in the first session on the first day of 2011 Qualifying School (Q School) Event 2. The first-round match ended in a decider
frame after a tussling battle between both cuemen. Parsons will next meet Alex Taubman of Wales in the second round.
Parsons made a strong impact in the very first frame of the match when he pocketed a stunning half-century break of 53 to grab the frame win at 60-57 and get a one-frame lead at 1-0. The Englishman extended his lead
to 2-0 when he took the second frame 71-61, firing a couple of decent breaks.
The 24-year-old O’Neill was under a lot of pressure as he was nudged two frames down by his opponent. However, he held his nerves well and clinched the third frame 0-98, potting an outstanding half-century knock of
51 to move within one frame up at 2-1.
A near-century clearance of 98 from O’Neill brought him level with Parsons at 2-2 as he took the fourth frame by 0-99. The Portsmouth potter, O’Neill, got a one-frame lead over compatriot, Parsons, at 2-3 when he
fired a rattling clearance of 73 to win the fifth frame at 0-79.
The match entered into a tense situation after five frames as Parsons was struggling to pull level at 3-3 while O’Neill seemed in a hurry to win the frame so he could move into the next round. However, Parsons won
the frame and pushed the match into a decider frame, which the player took easily at 50-15.
The final frame score of the match was 60(Parsons 53)-57, 71-61, 0-98 (O’Neill 51), 0-99 (O’Neill 98), 0-79 (O’Neill 73), 63-26 and 50-15.
The winner, Parsons, will next face the Welshman, Alex Taubman, in the second round of the 2011 World Snooker Q School on Thursday, May 19 at the World Snooker Academy in Sheffield. Taubman got a walkover against
Scotland’s Robin Hull because Hull has already qualified for the main tour of the 2011-12 season after winning his quarter-final clash on Monday, May 16.
