Anthony Perosh collects first round knockout win over Nick Penner on UFC on FX2 – UFC news
In the second light heavyweight bout on UFC on FX2, another Aussie brawler Anthony Perosh collected a knockout win over Canadian Nick Penner by mere punches in the last second of the first round.
The bout was a part of the preliminary card put forth by Ultimate Fighting championship (UFC) in its second pay-per-view on FX channel. The special edition’s main card, which was headlined by the non-title bout between Thiago Alves and Martin Kampmann, was
televised on FX channel whereas the prelim card bouts were televised on Fuel TV.
Anthony Perosh, widely known as ‘The Hippo’, has been in a total 18 bouts and came out victorious in 12. He has collected three of his wins by knockout, and a whopping nine by submission.
Persoh is famous in Australia for being a ground player since he relies heavily on his submission ability and makes the opponent submit by his vicious unbreakable grips. Anthony, 39, was coming from a dual win over Cyrille Diabate and Tom Blackledge and
both by rare-naked submission choke.
Nick, on the other hand, was entering in his career’s 13th bout and was heavily overshadowed by the Aussie Anthony. Nick not only faced the experience drawback but was also pressurised by the Aussie crowd who supported their native Anthony aggressively.
The only positive aspect in Nick’s gear was a huge eight-bout win streak. Nick has collected a total 11 wins, four of them by knockout, five by submission and two via unanimous decision. With the ring of the bell, Anthony started pummelling Nick and in the
very initial seconds injured his eyes and took him down.
Both men stood up but Nick’s eye which showered blood all over his face started causing problems. Anthony took the advantage and charged full throttle pushing Nick to the cage wall and unleashed a huge wave of powerful fists. The referee warned the defensive
Nick to fight back but he was overwhelmed and his senses started to fade away with Anthony’s continuous fist barrage.
Finally the referee intervened and the bout stopped with just one second remaining in the first round. Afterwards Anthony who collected the first round knockout win over Nick in just 4 minutes and 59 seconds commented, “I think my ego just wanted to be a
heavyweight. But athletically, I need to be a light heavyweight. I'm strong, I'm fit, I'm competitive, and no one's going to out-muscle me at light heavyweight.”
Anthony now has 13 wins in his resume and Nick, unfortunately, had received the second defeat of his career. The octagon for the bout was setup at Allphones Arena situated in Sydney, Australia and the show was televised on March 3, 2012.
