Anthony Pettis grabs swift knockout win over Joe Lauzon at UFC 144 in just 81 seconds – UFC news
In one of the most anticipated brawls, Anthony Pettis, the former World Extreme Cagefighting (WEC) lightweight champion, put forth the UFC fans one of the fastest knockout wins by nailing Joe Lauzon, the submission specialist, in just the 81st second of
the first round.
The three-round bout was the first on the UFC 144 main card and was expected to present an impressive show of resilience from both sides but Anthony’s powerful kick to Joe’s head ended the show in just the first round. The pay-per-view was headlined by the
bout between Frankie Edgar and Ben Henderson with the lightweight title on the line.
Anthony is famous for his ‘Showtime Kick’, the kick that helped him grab a win over Ben Henderson in WEC 53 and made him the lightweight champion. Anthony, widely known as the ‘Showtime’, has entered the octagon a total 16 times.
He has collected 14 wins, six by submission, five by knockout, and three by decision. Anthony is famous for being a knock out specialist but the aspect that makes him the most lethal brawler, is his ability to collect a win in even the worst scenarios.
Joe, well known as ‘J-Lau’, is also a prolific brawler who has an experience of 27 brawls. He has won 21 bouts, five by knockout and a whopping 16 by submission. Joe is considered as the most vicious submission tactic implementer in UFC, even more dangerous
than the current lightweight champion Ben Henderson.
Lauzon is a ground player and prefers to make his opponents tap, the reason why Anthony went on ahead full throttle to collect a swift, clean and easy knockout win. The bout started and Joe was getting warmed up trying to decode Anthony’s unique strategy
especially the kicks when from nowhere Anthony threw a huge well-targeted, blasting kick.
Joe thought that the kick was a low one and he went on to block it but it landed on his chin and rattled his world. The damage inflicted was substantial and later on, after connecting a series of right hand punches, Anthony was awarded the whole bout. The
knockout was so brutal and classic that it even won the knockout of the night award.
After the win Anthony commented, “I knew this was were I was supposed to be. I'm here for a reason. I'm the best lightweight in the division, and I'm coming for that belt.”
The bout was on aired from Saitama Super Arena situated in Saitama, Japan and was held on February 25, 2012. Anthony now has 15 wins and two losses and Joe has collected his seventh career loss.
