Anthony Ravard wins Classic de l’lndre Trophee Fenioux 2011 - Cycling Update
AG2R La Mondiale team’s Anthony Ravard showed a decent effort and retained his Classic de l’lndre trophee fenioux 2011 in Chateauroux on Sunday, August 21.
In the final kilometres, Mondiale team controlled the situation and the 27-year-old, French road bicycle racer took the total of 4 hours, 23 minutes and 7 seconds to cover the distance of 198.9 kilometres.
Ravard took this trophy in 2008 and 2010 and again secured his hat-trick after showing a good effort in the sprint. Recently, he took the point’s classification and overall standing of Etoile de Besseges.
Due to heat, all the cyclists faced problems during riding, as they were required to perform well and powerfully. The group of three cyclists made their breakaway lead, including, Kevin Lalouette (Roubaix Lille Metropole), Baptiste Planckaert (Landbouwkrediet)
and Kevin Van Melsen (Veranda's Willems – Accent).
All of them managed to gain points while Lalouette launched an attack and took the points in the first sprint. Arnoud Van Groen managed to increase his pace and attacked with Belkov but Nederland took the second sprint.
All of them were caught by the peloton after few kilometres to go and the new group is formed including, Edwig Cammaerts (Landbouwkrediet), Maxime Bouet (AG2R La Mondiale) and Anthony Geslin (FDJ). Maxime Bouet tried to take a lead but Cammaerts took the
third intermediate sprint.
Veranda's Willems – Accent team’s Kevin Van Melsen took all the three special sprint of the stage ahead of Lalouette and Planckaert.
However, in the final kilometres, Ravard attacked and jumped away to cross the finish line first while Jasper Bovenhuis (Rabobank Continental Team) was in third place with the same timing of Ravard.
Jetse Bol (Rabobank Continental Team), Joaquin Sobrino (Caja Rural) and Tony Gallopin (Cofidis, Le Credit En Ligne) were in sixth, seventh and eighth place respectively.
The 64 cyclists crossed the final line with the same timing of sprinter while Mikhail Antonov (Itera – Katusha) tried his best to catch the leading cyclists but failed and grabbed the 65th place with the difference of 8 seconds ahead of Laszlo
Bodrogi and Dominique Rollin.
