Anthony Rizzo makes debut for the Chicago Cubs – MLB News
The Chicago Cubs’ newly introduced third baseman Anthony Rizzo had his debut on Tuesday, June 26. The player who has made his ascension to the Major Leagues with an impressive record in the Minor Leagues has inspired much hope for the team and the fans.
His day on Tuesday was to begin with meeting his team manager and a brief press talk. Anthony Rizzo had previously got a chance to make his Major League appearance for the San Diego Padres. There he had .141 average in 49 games, probably leaving a lot to be desired.
However, while he will be playing in the Chicago Cubs, there are a lot of things that the club has carefully considered. For instance, the team knows well that they do not have to attach huge hopes to the player.
That is what the team manager Dale Sveum also referred to while speaking to the reporters on Tuesday.
"He told me I can't hit 10 home runs today," Rizzo said of his conversation with Sveum. "Hitting third today, that's a lot of confidence with me coming up here and him putting me in the three-hole. That's a really good feeling. I'm just part of this team now. It's about jelling and getting along with the guys and building relationships and after that, it's just baseball."
It is worthwhile to mention that it was Jed Hoyer – the current Cubs’ general manager, who had introduced Rizzo to the Major League in the past year. This is a coincidence as well as having some lessons to learn for both individuals.
Rizzo looks at his induction in the Major League as the first step towards bigger journeys. "I was the savior last year, too, which is why I think it's easier this year to come up," Rizzo said with the characteristic laughter of his when asked what he thought of the new position assigned to him in the Major League.
As the season progresses, Rizzo’s performance is what the team will understandably focus upon as he has come in the team not because of his experience, but because of his performance.
