Anthony Rizzo shines as New York Mets lose to Chicago Cubs 3-5 – MLB Recap
The New York Mets defeated by the Chicago Cubs 3-5 in the second game of their three-match regular series encounter on Tuesday, June 26 at Wrigley Field in 2012 Major League Baseball season.
First baseman Anthony Rizzo played tremendously as his performance proved one of the winning factors for the Cubs who have recently rose above from their four-game losing streak.
They had also lost a full three-game series from the Arizona Diamondbacks. The team will certainly want to come back into the competition, which they did in style defeating the Mets’ in two consecutive games.
Later in the game Rizzo commented on his performance which gave the Cubs a welcome series’ win, "That's how I play the game, really relaxed, Everybody always tells me it looks like I'm not even trying. I like hearing that a lot. Those are the little things
that go unnoticed in baseball that you've got to do to win day in, day out, It's just playing baseball."
“He didn't act like much of a kid tonight, that's for sure, That was pretty impressive." Cubs’ manager Dale Sveum said.
The Mets’ from start to end played under pressure and could not capitalise on their offensive prowess. The entire batting line-up did not look well against the Cubs’ healthy and strong pitching
"We didn't run the bases, we didn't play good defense, we didn't drive in runs we need to drive in, We didn't pitch very good.” Mets’ manager Terry Collins said after the game.
Starter Randy Wells and relief pitcher Scott Maine performed certainly exceptional and pitched in right areas.
Wells tossed three innings and received three runs on six hits. He gave three earned runs while his ERA remained persistent at 5.34.
Maine pitched two solid scoreless and hitless innings and maintained his 7.15 EAR with 30-15 PC-ST record.
On the other hand, the Mets’ starter Dillon Gee pitched five innings and received nine hits, four runs and four earned runs as his ERA rose to 4.42.
Gee’s pitching was also the most frustrating part of the Mets’ defeat. The Mets needed a win, but could not make a stand against the Cubs’ offence.
