Anthony Rizzo’s first appearance at San Diego fails to lead Chicago Cubs to victory – MLB News
The Chicago Cubs first baseman Anthony Rizzo had his first game in San Diego on Monday, August 6, after he was traded from the Padres to the Cubs. Although Rizzo had come well-prepared, ready to face any challenge, his team could not eventually make use of the opportunities coming their way, thereby losing the game 2-0.
But whatever the result of Monday’s game, Rizzo has been one of the fascinating discoveries for the Cubs. Only last month did the first baseman win the National League Rookie of the Month Award, thanks to his magnificently consistent performance ever since his induction in the team.
With 17 RBIs and seven homers that he hit, Rizzo maintained an impressive .330 average. Rizzo recalled the transition from being in the Padres to the Cubs now.
"The first time around here was crazy, and it was a lot to take in and a lot of different things happened and it obviously didn't go the way I wanted," Rizzo said. "I was prepared more this time when I came up [to the Cubs]. I was more anxious to get on the field again to prove myself."
It is not only him who comes to San Diego with memories. The team general manager Jed Hoyer – at some point in time, was also attached to San Diego Padres, serving them in the same capacity as the current one.
Jed Hoyer actually loves the ballpark here. "I'm sure I'll enjoy myself and bounce around and see a lot of people," Hoyer said  while talking about his coming back to San Diego. "It's fun to be back in San Diego to see friends. I love this ballpark. It's a great place to watch a game. It's obviously a beautiful city.”
The Cubs will definitely try to leave San Diego with a better result. But it is Rizzo and the team general manager Jed Hoyer who will particularly be interested in having a favourable result for the Cubs.
Whether Cubs succeed in that or not is a question that shall be best answered in the couple of days when the three-game series will have formally come to end.
