Anthony Roux wins fourth stage of 2011 Circuit de Lorraine Professional: Cycling News
FDJ team’s Anthony won his second sprint victory after beating Rui Faria in a bunch sprint of the 2011 Circuit de Lorraine Professional on Saturday, May 21.
The race started in Baccarat and ended at Rehlingen. The stage one winner, Anthony took a total 4 hours, 6 minutes and 14 seconds to cover the distance of 175.5 kilometres.
Rui Faria Da Costa of the Movistar team was in second place with the same timing of Anthony. Sebastien Hinault was also in a good form, but he grabbed the third place in the race.
Marco Marcato, Thierry Hupond and Kristof Goddaert were in fourth, fifth and sixth place, respectively.
After 37 kilometres, the group of three escapees, Romain Zingle of the Cofidis team, Jonathan Hivert of the Saur Sojasun team and Gianluca Maggiore of the Ceramica Flaminia team attacked the peloton.
With 40 kilometres to go, all of them gained advantage of 2 minutes and 20 seconds on the pack. However, they all were caught 25 kilometres before the finish-line to set up a gallop.
In final kilometre three cyclists, Rui Faria, Sebastien Hinault and Marco tried best to catch the Anthony Roux, but all of them failed. Anthony had good legs and with the help of his team he crossed the finish-line ahead of the others cyclists.
Recently, the French cyclist took overall victory and youth classification in Circuit de la Sarthe. He also won the fifth stage of Circuit de Lorraine in 2010.
The third stage winner Thomas De Gendt of Vacansoleil was took lead in the overall classification with timing of 16 hours, 50 minutes and 44 seconds. Julien Simon was runner-up with five second behind Thomas. While the stage winner Anthony Roux was in third
place with the difference of six seconds.
The final stage will start in Metz and end in Hayange. The entire cyclist will cover a distance of 149.5 kilometres.
The points classification of top three cyclists are:
1. Anthony Roux (Fra) FDJ Team 65 points
2. Romain Feillu (Fra) Vacansoleil Team 36 points
3. Rui Faria Da Costa (Por) Movistar Team 34 points
