Anthony Tolliver wants to move to the Atlanta Hawks – NBA Update
There have been rumours of the growing interest Anthony Tolliver has been receiving from teams around the NBA and the 27 year old has even been drawing interest from a Greek team. However no solid deal has materialized so far in
the summer and Tolliver and his agent are still playing the waiting game.
In a recent interview to Fox Sports, Tolliver opened up on where he wants to play next season and considered the Atlanta Hawks to be a suitable fit for him.
“I don’t think they have a guy on their roster with that skill set with shooting and versatility,’’ Tolliver said
He also considered his good relationship with general manager Danny Ferry to be the key in landing him a contract with the Hawks. The two were together at the Cleveland Cavaliers.
Tolliver is a four year veteran in NBA. His started out with the San Antonio Spurs, then joined the Portland Trail Blazers before heading to the Golden State Warriors in 09-10, when he had the best season of his career. The forward
spent the last two seasons with the Minnesota Timberwolves, where he gradually moved deeper into the bench. Last season, he just got 17.3 minutes of playing time in 51 games (no starts) and put up 4.1 points and 3 rebounds on average.
Based on his ability to shoot the ball from long range, Tolliver believes that he can be a good asset for the Hawks. However, Atlanta already has Josh Smith on the roster, who is not shy at all in stepping out and attempting from
long range.
Tolliver holds a career average of 6.8 points per game and is coming off from two rather unsuccessful seasons with Wolves. Given the rebuilding intent of the Hawks, his arrival as a back up to Josh seems improbable. The franchise
might rather spend on a young prospect.
The chance also exists with other teams around the NBA and the best possible option for Tolliver at the moment would be to stay in Minnesota – a young rising team, where he can play a secondary role to Kevin Love.
However, Tolliver seems to have his focus on a move to Atlanta and believes that is where he has the best chance of having a successful career.
