.Ancient Traces by Michael Bagient is a must for anyone with serious intentions. Another book you will find irresistible is Forbidden Archaeology, by M Cremo and Dr. Richard Thompson, Published in 1993 reputed to be one of the finest works of the decade

I majored in anthropology; and aside from an intro to anthropology textbook, the best book I've read that incorporates both the biology and culture behind anthropology and human evolution is Paul Ehrlich's "Human Natures: Genes, Cultures, and Human Prospect".
