Anthropology career?

Hi there. I am really interested in an anthropology career. I'm just wondering if anyone can clarify the different subtypes of anthropology. I am mainly interested in studying race: how races diverged and developed into different races AND how environmental factors, migratory factors and other factors influenced this. What is this called? Is this even a type of anthropology? Any help would be appreciated; I'm checking out colleges and it would help in the process!

Oh, just for kicks, I'm also planning to major in theater. Just thought you'd want to know, lol.

First, while "race" accurately describes the cultural division of people into ethnic groups, "race" does not exist biologically. That is, there is more difference within a "racial group" than there is between groups.  

That being said, there are 4 sub-fields of anthropology:

1. Cultural anthropology

2. Archeology

3. Biological Anthropology

4. Linguistic Anthropology

It seems like what you want (the migration of mankind across landmasses and splitting into different groups) is somewhere in the wide, wide, wide realm of biological anthro /archeology /evolutionary biology. Unfortunately, I'm a cultural anthropologist myself, and  I don't know the specifics of what you would be looking for.

sounds like you should look into cultural anthropology. i have also met people who study "human history," which is precisely what you are describing.

If you are going to be an Anthropologist you should get it in your head that there are no races, there's just the one

Race does not exist biologically, so you can either study the different perceptions of race w/cultural anthropology or you can study human diversity which would be part of physical/biological anthropology.
