Anthropology major...what minor should I go for?

I'm majoring in anthropology with emphasis on archaeology and was wondering what minors would compliment this major? I know anthropology doesn't pay particularly well and I'm not sure what kind of job I plan on getting. What minor would allow for more job opportunities?

Sociology.

It would be great if they merged the two, topics.

Anthropology as a major can take you in any number of directions.  If your focus on archaeology then you might consider geology as a minor; I'm sure you can see the obvious connection there.

But, the key is finding out what you love.  For example, if you have a musical background then you can minor in music and that will shape your path toward ethnomusicology.  If you like health, minor in that and you'll head toward Human Evolutionary Ecology and Health Care Services.  If you like lanuguage, minor in that and you'll head toward Linguistic Anthropology and Education.

That's what is so absolutely brilliant about anthropology - it has so many branches.

sociology, psychology, history, biology,  and geology are all good. it really depends on your career goals.

History is a nice compliment esp. if they have a museum studies option at your school.  It helps if you're into CRM.

i would choose philosophy or psychology.

Geology - a fundamental knowledge of geologic principles is essential, especially if you plan to do prehistoric archaeology.  You could then also look into careers as a geoarchaeologist or geomorphologist (but grad school would be needed).

Geography - if your school has a geography department that offers classes in GIS and GPS.  It is a very marketable skill in archaeology right now.

Sociology is good if you want the "data collection" aspect of interaction of life.

But for a little spin on the norm, you could try a Psych minor, and find out the possible intrinsic meanings behind some of those behaviors. ;)

Psych is where all the fun is.
