Anti-Anxiety Medication Question?

Question

Which of these 3 medications is most effective in treating anxiety and panic attacks?

I'm talking about IMMEDIATE treatment (along with over a period of time).

Vistaril 50mg

Zoloft 50mg or 100mg

Prozac 20mg

I take Clonazepam.  I dont take it everyday,but when I feel one coming on,I take one and it works quickly and makes the symptoms pass.

Its also labeled under Klonopin

Zoloft and Prozac are antidepressants. Don't know about Vistaril. Should ask your GP or your shrink... For me, I'd pick Ativan for #1 choice for anti-anxiety med.

Vistaril is an antihistamine which is for allergies--not anxiety-- zoloft and prozac are antidepressants.  Zoloft "may" help with anxiety but it is not dedicated as an anti-anxiety medication.  Medications - Klonopin- clonazepam, generic, ativan, xanax are all anti-anxiety medications- especially the klonopin which also helps with panic attacks.

I agree that zoloft and prozac or antidepresants not anxiety meds. I have heard of vistaril but do not know much about it.  I too am looking into starting an anxiety medication... i guess ill just ask my doc.
