I like superantispyware and ad-aware. Both are free and work well, I use both because one will get stuff the other may miss. I recommend using 2 anti spy-ware programs just don't run scans at the same time.

I also agree with the first guy get AVG 8.0 free edition from http://www.cnet.com for virus protection in conjunction with the anti spy-ware and you should be protected.

A very good, free anti-virus available to download is AVG 8 Anti-virus:

And for any spyware problems, get SpyBot - Search and Destroy:

Both are free, as powerful as paid programs, like Norton and McAfee, and don't use up as many resources.

Just boot into Safe Mode (Press F8 when turning on the computer) and run full scans.
