Question:

Anti-depressants (Cymbalta), how long do side effects usually last & how soon will they start?

I just started Cymbalta. I've only taken 3 doses. I've been throwing up. I think it's too soon for there to be side effects (don't think it's had time to absorb into my system enough). I'm thinking it's just a coincidence that I've been sick at the same time. So I thought I'd ask here. When you start an anti-depressant, how long after you started does it usually take for side effects to start? What are the usual side effects & how long do they normally last?

  1. I have been taking Cymbalta for 2 years and have never had side effects.  I feel great for the first time in a long time after taking things like Paxil, Lexapro, Wellbutrin and Zoloft for about 10 years.

  2. When I first started taking Cymbalta, I did notice mild nausea after I took the daily dose.  It didn't last the whole day.  It was just after I took that morning dose.  This lasted for about a week.  I am doing pretty well taking Cymbalta.  I hope your stomach problem is a coincidence.

Take it slowly getting back to eating.  I hope things will work out for you.   Good Luck.

  3. Dear Me in TN,

I am also on Cymbalta and did have some nausea at the start. It does go away. There is a great web site that will give you more info on antidepressants at http://www.prevention.com/cda/vendorarti...

Cymbalta did help me lose weight as it curbed my appetite!
