I've started taking anti-depressants (triptizol) 2 weeks ago and I was just wondering if it would be ok if I consumed alcohol and/or energy drinks such as Red Bull. I'm going to a party soon and I really want to know if it would be safe for me to have a few drinks. Please help

  1. NOOOOOOOOOOOO.

Anti depressants and alcohol do NOT MIX. They just don't. Unless you want to get raped or taken advantage of, do not drink alcohol within at least 4 or 5 hours of taking your medicine.

So if the party is 4 or 5 hours from now, go ahead. Just start out slow. Please.

  2. If you re well enough to party, then you are well enough to kick the antidepressants.  SSRIs are not just feel good pills, and I suggest you reevaluate to what extent you really need a drug if you are up to going out and getting wasted.  And no, you cant just skip a dose and get wasted.  Generally the effects of alcohol are increased with an SSRI.  Look, don't do it.  It is immature.

  3. DEFINITELY NO on alcohol, not sure about Red Bull.  Alcohol and anti-depressants don't mix.  At the very least the combination could make you very sick, and at the very worst it could kill you.  Don't do it.  As for energy drinks, they're some of the worst things on the planet for you even if you're not on medication.  They're loaded with high-fructose corn syrup, which is the father of all dietary evil, and they're also loaded with stimulants that wreak havoc with your metabolism.  Just my two-cents worth:  Avoid Red Bull too.

  4. If Tryptizol  has been taken and someone happens to drink alcohol it will simply just weaken the plasma levels of this antidepressant. In simple words  the medication is of no use to the body.

And in the manner, You have asked your question, I believe that You are not a regular drinker ( very good of you ) and are curious to know because of the upcoming party that You are invited to. My suggestion ( only in your case ) is " good ahead " but on that night once You have consumed alcohol don't eat any of the Tryptizol. It will be just a waste of the medication. Last but not the least, try not to too much or heavy liquor due to two facts. 1. Your partying might get ruined cause of a headache 2. The alcohol will remain in your blood till the next day and usually alcohol's withdrawal causes depression as well.

    Good Luck !

  5. Alcohol counteracts anti-depressants and is a dangerous combination. If you must drink, do not take your meds....if you truly need your meds, do NOT drink!  Your health depends on it.
