Okay so i'm a freshmen in high school and I just started at an all boys catholic prep school. I hate it there so much. They people are really mean and stuck up and there are cliques. The teachers are mean and don't treat us like real people, besides half of my teachers are either the principle, the academic dean, or a coach. The worst part is there is no girls! There is an all girls school across the street, but all of the are really s****.. I want to transfer to a public school ASAP. I used to go to one in elementary school. But my parents absolutley hate public schools, here's what they say. You'll get a worse educate and end up working in a factory somewhere. or You'll get beat up. And a bunch of stuff like that. I really want to go but they're making me feel like if i go to a public school i'll end up a failuure in life. How can I convince them I want to transfer sophmore year? The other option is another Catholic high school that my sister goes to. She said she doen't want me to go there because I don't play a school sport and that's what all the cliques are centered around. She's also says i'll get beat up because the school is in a not so nice 'hood. I was going to go there last year but she started screaming for me not to go and because of that my parents sent me to the school i am currently going to. Another huge issue is my practice. I practice gymnastics after school almost everyday and we get at least two hours of homework a day. I usually get home at 9 so i'm really tired. What can I tell my parents? Which school should i go to? How to manage?

  1. You tell them that you despise Catholic school and tell them why you hate it and tell them this will affect your future in a negative way and also tell them if not a catholic high school but a non sectarian one and most importantly the part where they said that they don't treat you well is a very good reason and also refusing to go and locking yourself in the room or something like not participating or something that shows your protest against there decision is a good way but remember they only send you to one because they want you to have a "good" future but tell them other wise that you cannot concenrate on what you really want.

Why not when they drop you off you refuse to enter the premises and teachers and head masters can't force you because touching is an offense and then explain your side.

  2. the problem with public schools is they have a tendency to be over crowded, the teachers are over extended and you may fall through the cracks. The lesson plans in private schools are usually more stringent and you have a higher success rate in life and you become more disciplined.

Don't get me wrong I'm not bashing public schools, my kids go there, but not by my choice!

  3. Class of 2010

I use to want to attend a Private/ religious school but my parents told me no. Now I'm a junior and don't mind attending public schools. You may eventually grow into the school.

  4. Your parents are correct in sending you to the all boys' school.  At your age you do not need the distraction girls create.  Your main job is to graduate from high school with good grades - good enough for you to go to any college or university you want.  Do well in school and do well with your gymnastics and you could also earn a scholarship.

Your teachers aren't "mean", they simply have high standards for their students and know they can rise to the standards.  Most young adults will look back on the "mean" teachers with fondness and feel thankful those teachers really stuck it to them.

In Seattle there are several single gender schools.  O'Dea High School is for boys and Holy Names which is not too far is for girls.  Girls from Holy Names serve as cheerleaders for the O'Dea sports teams.  When the two schools put on drama productions they cast the roles from the two schools.  There are also dances the two schools host.

In Tacoma there are Annie Wright for girls and Charles Wright for boys.

Just because you are in an all boys school doesn't mean you won't meet girls.  Go to the dances your school hosts.....girls will be there.

Your parish may have an active youth group. Girls will be there.  Attend other Catholic youth group activities.  Girls will be there.

Your parents know more about your community than you do.  Trust them.  If the public schools in your city are anything like those in my area, then you are getting a much better education in the Catholic system.

  5. Private schools do tend to offer better education. There are some good private schools with good, not so stuck up people. Taft in Connecticut is a great example. 99% of the people who go there worked there **** off to get in, so they appreciate the experience and are accepting of others. Every now and then you will come across a legacy who is an arrogant jerk but they are easy to avoid.

  6. I'm not an anti-public school parent but I know someone was in public school and is currently a doctor.Go to home-schooling.

  7. I think you should transfer. Offer your reasons why you don't want to go and why a public school would be better. The high school I go to isn't that cliquey and has honors and AP and all that plus 50 clubs. Also, there's not that much homework. only about an hour a day at most, there are exceptions. You should do what you want to do, not wat everyone else wants you to do. Except when you know there right of course. Is the public school you want to go to in a nice neighborhood? Most kids never go into the bad stuff like fighting and all that. Try to persuade your parents to let you try for a year. Do something impressive, like with your gymnastics. Create a gymnastics club, as long as you love what your doing, it's ok. Hope I helped.

  8. first just let me say that working in a factory does not constitute being a failure. my father and mother work in factories for over 20 years to keep a roof over our heads and food on the table;and i am proud to be the daughter of factory workers. factory and warehouse workers are the backbone of this country without them you and your parents would not have the furniture you sit on or be able to go to the grocer and get the food you eat; you need to learn to respect the people who work so hard for your convenience.

as far as telling your parents you wish to go to public school just speak yo them openly and honestly, do your research and back up your choice you know your choice make them see why, be articulate and concise your parents love you they will listen.

  9. Public school offer the same education as private schools, you will just have more people in classes, and less one on one with the teacher.

Which isn't a bad thing if your smart, just gives less work.

You also won't have to deal with all the religious c**p some private schools have.
