Anti recycling? Yes? No? I don't know...?

Well, I haven't thought much about recycling. But we are having this debate in school about anti-recycling vs. pro-recycling. Which one's better for the enviornment? I had absolutely no say whether I got to be anti or pro, I was ASSIGNED anti. So what I found out was that when recycling, we are trying to conserve our natural resourses, right? Well one of them would be oil, and we use oil to oil the recycling truck, and to oil the recycling factories. We also burn chemicals to make the plastic bins to recycle with. So could you guys help me out with this? I only need the anti views and some facts to support it? Thank you. And if you have pro recycling views, go ahead and say what you want to say, it's a free country, but it won't get best answer. Thank you.

  1. Just say that your anti-recycling because people do it for the money and not for the love of the environment.

  2. Wow, you definitely got the tougher side of the argument to fight for here. Off the top of my head, arguments against recycling could include:

    - Products made from recycled material can be more expensive due to the costs involved in collecting / recycling / reprocessing the materials.

    - Recycling in developed countries often makes little impact when compared with the massive wastage and consumption of rapidly developing countries such as China and India. Unless they get on board, the global impact of recycling is negligible.

    - Recycling is time consuming and additional hassle for people, especially if it is enforced by law.

That's really all I can think of right now. By the way, I'm very much pro-recycling, so coming up with that was an interesting task for me. :-)

  3. Well, it does cost more money to recycle products than to keep producing new ones in almost every case.  That is why the corporations and other businesses refuse to do so, because it cuts into their bottom dollar.  The big corporations need to show their investors a rise in profits every quarter. . . or wind up losing their business in various ways.  Sad, but true. . .

That is why it is important to reuse stuff and try not to buy new. . . Man I wish there was an internet to research on when I was in school :)  Good luck to you!!!

  4. I don't thinkt here are any cons to recycling. If you really were anti, there would be more garbage than if you recycled.

  5. Please take yourself away from a debate or class which makes you be anti recycling.  The research for anti recycling will be very litte.  Those you find wil be smaller than the bigger picture of recycling.  Places of recycling may not use oil and they try to use renewable sources of energy.  Plastic bins are used, when looking at it on a larger scale lots can be recyled from them over longer periods of time.

In saying to your class, say,  I researched reclycling and found no reasons to not recycle in that recycling is good and in researching it i found it to be good.  I therefore move myself toward the pro recycling view.

If you can do a little research, tell your teacher that you would like to be excused from the anti pro debate because youve been put with the anti view and it goes against your own views.  You could even ask your parents or someone like your geography or sociology teacher to write you a note to help you be excused from the debate.  You may be able to observe.  Good luck.
