Anti theft code

Question

i have a 1998 vw new beetle it comes with an anti theft stereo that goes into safe mode if the battery dies in any way or if removed. i had the 3.4 booklet before that i need to get the code but i feel my wife by accident has thrown it out since i have all but the one i need. im trying to find out what my code is. its a four digit code that i need to enter into the system to get it to turn back on to hear music. i know how to enter it just not the code. PLEASE PLEASE can you help, i have failed at finding it for 2 weeks now and dont have the money to take it in to have it done for me. PLEASE help...
