I just applied some antibacterial cream to my sons you know where for a rash, and about 30 minutes later i reached into my cycling tank and set the temp a lil lower on the heater. i did rinse my hand but was wondering after the fact of course if the residue from this oily cream would be enough to kill off the nitrifying bacteria in my canister filter?

  1. it could kill the bacteria. you should do a water change to make sure that it doesnt.

  2. The first thing I thought of was "Why is your son putting his you know what in a fish tank?" Ha ha ha, thanks for the laugh.

I think you're probably fine, in that it'd be so diluted that you don't have to worry about it, but if you want peace of mind you might do like a 25% water change.
