Question:

Antibiotics and Yeast Infections?

I went to see my Dr on Tuesday and was diagnosed with Strep Throat. He gave me Amoxicillin 500 mg 3X daily for 10 days. I started that very day. The next day (yesterday) I developed a yeast infection (?!!) so I called the same Dr who prescribed the antibiotic and he said no biggie, he called in another prescription for Fluconazole which is just ONE SINGLE pill?!?!?!? Has anyone had this happen to them, did the Fluconazole work for them? How quick did it work? Did the yeast infection end up coming back at all before you finished the antibiotic?

  1. I have been in the same situation.  Every time I go on antibiotics I develop a yeast infection.  So when the DR prescribes me the Antibiotics I ask her to write me one for the Difulcan as well.

Yes the one pill really works because it stays in your system for a few days and clears everything up. It takes about a day to feel some relief.  I have never had an instance where the infection came back it seems like that one pill does the trick.

  2. yeastrol works best for yeast infections

  3. The antibiotic kills off all bacteria even the good bacteria that will then allow yeast to take over causing a yeast infection. Yes, I've experienced it many times and the fluconazole pill works great and yest only 1 pill does the trick. Also eating yogurt while taking antibiotics will help prevent the yeast infection. However, some of us are just prone to them.

  4. Every time I take antibiotics I get a yeast infection. It is common because there are good bacteria and bad bacteria - antibiotics kill them all. You can try upping your yogurt or taking probiotics while on antibiotics, but it never works for me.

I have used the one-day (not Fluconazole). It works but it's like putting battery acid in your Va-jay-jay. I just get the OTC stuff for 5 days. It takes longer but isn't corrosive.

  5. Umm Yes this happens a lot to women who have taken or are taking antibiotics. They kill off our natural flora down there and yeast is free to grow. Fluconazole works wonders and almost all the time one dose does it. Rarely do you need a second dose. But if you do then its just one pill.

  6. I just ahd that happen to me... eat lots of yogurt, it replaces the needed bacteria that the antibiotic is taking out... it really helps!
