Antidepressant question HELP

Question

What antidepressant has the best record for treating social anxiety/ anxiety. I was on fluoxetine and felt it helped with some problems but not depression, etc. I want to treat my social anxiety/anxiety adn paranoia Which antidepressant should i try? are snris better than ssris. my doctor prescribed me effexor but im really afraid formt he stories ive heard. I dont have anxiety that bad where i can't communicate with people, and i feel effexor sounds dangerous and isn't for mild social anxiety. Thnks

Zoloft. Prozac (Fluoxetine) is only for depression and OCD. not anxiety. Zoloft is the best for social anxiety and depression as well.

I don't know what you have heard about effexor, but I have been taking it for 2 years now and it has helped me more than any other anti depressant I have tried. I feel normal and can still have emotional reactions to things like a sad movie. The only thing that effexor may cause is a little bit less libido but that is a small price to pay compared to the postiive help I get from taking it. btw I take effexor er. it is the best way to take it. I hope you can try it out it sure helped me.

xanax (Alprazolam)  is the best for any type of social anxiety... its a shame they don't really prescribe it anymore though because people abuse it and the withdraw symptoms can be deadly

I'm not a doctor and I don't think these people are either (if you are please speak up), so I'm not going to recommend medications.  Is you're doctor a psychiatrist or just your MD?  If he's just you're MD go to a psychiatrist. They're better trained in these kinds of meds.  Some can work in combination so it's not an either/or thing.   These drugs are really pretty safe if under the supervision of a Psychiatrist.  I'm not sure I'd trust my family doctor with them.
