Question:

Antidepressants no longer work? So depressed?

I'm 22 years old and diagnosed with Major Depression. I'm currently on the medication Cipralex, 10 mg a day. I've been on this since winter 2007 and it has worked up until the past couple of weeks.

Lately it's been hard for me not to be irritable, and I'm tired all the time.

I already talked to my doctor, saying that the medication no longer works and my doctor said that I have to wait until I have my first appointment with my therapist as I'm starting counselling soon. I don't know how long this will be, and I NEED my meds to function properly!

I can't take being so depressed and I need to be able to function.

What can I do in the meantime about this while I'm waiting to see the therapist?

Serious answers only please!!

  1. I agree with Pammie. You might need an altogether different type of AD (e.g. an SNRI instead of an SSRI). A competent doctor should address this, not make you wait.

  2. keep yourself busy. clean the house. do a puzzle. play with your pets if you have any.

and help other people. little things can make a big difference in peoples life.

even if you don't realize maybe smiling and waving to a complete stranger while driving in your car may make that persons day go from annoyed at the traffic to happy that someone cares.

also...don't let yourself think. that's a huge thing that I do. if I let myself sit and think about all of the bad stuff going on. then I revert back to old behaviors and I could take a few steps back and before I realize it be on a downward spiral.

and also maybe write down some things that you want to cover when your with your therapist. dont hold anything back

    maybe keep a journal

get some excersise. and also some rest. but dont over-do either

  3. often when one antidepressant stops working another will work.  Therapy can be very effective, so your doctor is probably waiting to see if that will work.  Personally I would try to get the doctor to increase your dose or try something else.

  4. i am an advocate of the use of psilocybin and psilocin. they will put a smile on your face for about 4-6 hours

  5. please dont take prescriptions = poison..

    try Sam-E + vitamin B vitamins which works wonders=natural

  6. I'm feeling the same way. The only solution for me is going to be suicide.

  7. Step 1: Ensure your emotion is controlled daily. Don't over reacted, stay calm and don't get worry easily

Step 2: Think before your action. Don't repeat her past experience on herself. Remind herself from time to time.

Step 3: Be confident to yourselves. Remember everyone is the winner. "Only One sperms out of millions fertilize an egg"

Step 4: Get a group of close friends to share your experience and get some activities that would occupied your time

Step 5: Increase scope of life. Meaning that she should involve in more social activities like dancing, outing and others.

Step 6: Put a rubberband on the wrist. If there is a negative thought, Tighten the rubber band and release it. Hence the effect of the pain would be able to reduce the possibility of negative thought.

    Good Luck.

  8. See another Dr. You need a dose increase or a new med. Your  Dr should know this. Not changing your med dose or drug is not wise. This can cause your depression to get worse while you wait. Seeing a counselor is a great idea but you need help until you wait. It is not uncommon for Depression meds to stop working after awhile. Usually you have about 10 years with each med so that's why I think you may need to increase the dose. Also do you have anxiety. If so ask for Ativan to help with this. There is no reason to suffer from major depression if you don't have to. Many people don't understand how horrible it is until the have suffered from it. Get a Dr that understands your problem and wants to help.

  9. Ride an exercycle while listening to your favorite music for 1/2 hour to 40 min.

  10. I understand the feeling of severe depression. The feelings are so

bad.  It's hard to suggest anything knowing you already are seeing a doctor about this. About the main thing that helps bring good chemicals to your brain is walking or any kind of physical exertion.

This is something that most always helps..

Try reading any positive material you can find. Some encouraging words and anything that promotes hope in your mind...Don't let negativity inter your mind.,  That will not help you in any way !

I wish you would get this personalized book that is all about you and affirmations encouraging you. It is a great tool for building better self image and confidence. It has your name throughout the book.

With medication, you can do some things that will help your feelings. Doesn't seem like you are taking a strong dose of antidepressants but you probably need to change the kind you have been taking for a long while.  I had to change and it will help you also.

Make sure you get all other areas of your body checked out as well as the depression. There are other reasons one gets depressed.  Just ask and seek information everywhere. Try to learn what helps you.

You can get this book, which is a very good tool for inspiration and encouragement for yourself, at the site below in the source line. I have loved mine and it has changed me considerably. Just keep seeking answers and for sure see your doctor !

    Blessings to you !
