Can people actually choose to be antisocial? Or is there really a cause for their lack of interaction with others? Could laziness be a reason?

  1. actually being antisocial is a mental disorder. and its when the kids get into trouble, lying and stealing, lots of anger. stuff like that.

i thought not wanting to do anything/staying inside all the time meant it was antisocial. but i asked a question and everyone told me.

I am "antisocial". your sense of antisocial. i don't really like going out or interacting with others. and i am lazy. i guess in a way, its a choice. i dont mind it.

  2. Leryn Elizabeth is right. A lot of people think that "not being social" is what "antisocial" means. Antisocial is a trait, part of a personality disorder in which the person has no social conscience, no sense of right and wrong, not caring what happens to others, no feelings of guilt for harming others. Usually that is caused by some type of early trauma which is not in the person's conscious mind and then they act out or do things to recreate their perception of the situation. (Well, that's a theory, anyway.)

What people are talking about is just being more socially aloof. Or maybe just not needing as much social interaction. That's just a choice; some people enjoy a lot of social interaction, some people, not as much. It's not lazy; it's just they way people are.

  3. Antisocial is often confused with antisocial personality disorder.

Let us be clear on this: antisocial means working AGAINST someone. If a child, for example, wants to be left alone in his room, but he's not angry in any way towards people close to him, he is simply introverted. He is experiencing too many stimuli to be out in that area.

Being antisocial means that your goal in life is to hurt or exploit others because you can. That is the definition. It can be very bad, and it often leads men and women down the paths of being murderers.

  4. Some shy people like to be alone.

Sometime socializing with other people can give them a lot of stress. They like to be alone so that they can enjoy peace and quiet and do stuff that they enjoy doing.
