  1. I just got rid of that thing for a customer.  Pain in the ear....

But you can get rid of it yourself. This is what I did.

*Download, install programs and the get the updates. DO NOT RUN A SCAN YET:

    Adware

    http://www.download.com/3001-8022_4-1073...

    SuperAntispyware (Free Edition)

    http://www.superantispyware.com/download...

    Malwarebytes-Anti-Malware

    http://www.download.com/Malwarebytes-Ant...

Ccleaner (will clean up c**p after going online)

    http://www.ccleaner.com/download

*Then after you have done the install and updates of each, DISCONNECT from the internet. Pull the plug.

*Go to Start>Settings>Control Panel>Internet Options. Under browsing history choose delete (cookies, temporary internet files etc). If a window pops up, check the box, delete files and settings stored by add-ons.

*Make sure your folder settings allow you to see the ALL your folders, Go to My Computer, double click it. Then go to Tool > Folder Options > View.

Check all the boxes which say to show files boxes and UNCHECK all the Hide boxes. Warning may appear, click yes/ok.  Then click apply and ok.

*Now Go to C:\Documents and Settings\**USERNAME\Local Settings \temp

    Delete all files.

**USERNAME means the actual user, you won't see Username.

    Do above for each user.

    *Delete all in recycle bin

    *Run CCleaner.

*Next, boot up in safe mode (Tap the F8 key every few seconds as the system boots up until the screen with Safe Mode option appears). CHoose the first Safe Mode, not with network.

When it boots up it will look funny, it might ask for administrator password.

*Now run the above spyware programs. Choose Full scans as oppossed to quick scans. (NOT CCleaner)

You can also run a full scan with your virus program, mcafee or whatever.

I would also download and install Firefox, its less vulnerable than IE.

(Then configure it for pop-ups and other things, like Clearing everything when you exit. Go to tools>options>privacy tab, setting to clear everything)

RUN CCLEANER AFTER YOU ARE ONLINE. I dont analyze, I just choose the Run option.  Have every user do this.

  2. It's not a virus - it's malware, which inaccurately reports that you have tons of viruses in order to get you to buy it.

Bad luck, it's extremely annoying, a few of my friends and coworkers have had it.

    Use these uninstall instructions:

    http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/malware-...

Basically they tell you to get Malwarebytes' Anti Malware, which is free, and gets rid of this no problem.

Regarding the money you paid, good luck.  You could try speaking to your credit card company - although you willingly purchased it, surely there's an argument for fraud - as the software tells you you have viruses you don't have in order to get you to buy it.
