  1. Install AVG free edition and Spybot-Search& Destroy. Both are freewares and provide lethal security in combination. AVG free edition takes care of viruses and Spybot takes care of adwares, spywares and trojans and eliminates them using its secure shredder. They are also lite on your system memory. Just after installation update their definitions. They are better and effective than their paid counterparts, some of which are resource hogs.

  2. The other day, my free anti-virus program caught a Trojan virus.

To ensure that the virus caught is not a false positive,

I upload it to virus total web site to check.

    http://www.virustotal.com/analisis/c3558...

To my surprise, all the big names in Anti-virus industry cannot detect

the Trojan. The one that detect the Trojan are mainly the free version.

Later, I found out that most malwares are designed to attack popular

antivirus products (like Symantec, McAfee or Norton), but since free anti-virus

product is much less used, it's capable of fighting the viruses when

    industry leaders fail.

So I would go for the free version rather than the bloated and

    unreliable branded version.

I would suggest that you get Avast Home Edition version 4,

which is free for personal use.

Avast is a very effective and free anti-virus program because it can do

a boot time scan in safe mode and it will remove the entire virus on your PC.

Even those viruses that hide inside the system restore folder.

Windows utilize a restore utility that backs up selected files

automatically to the System volume information /System Restore folder.

This means that an infected file could be stored there as a backup file,

and most anti-virus programs will be unable to delete these files. You

must disable the System Restore Utility to remove the infected files

from the folder if you use another brand of anti-virus. However, you do

not need to do so if you use Avast to do a boot up scan in safe mode.

  3. nortons sucks

    AVG

    MCAFEE

    SEARCH AND DESTROY

    SPYWARE TERMINATOR IS REALLY GOOD

AND GET ZONE ALARM FOR YOUR FIRE WALL

MCAFEE HAS A GREAT ANTI VIRUS AND FIREWALL AND COMES WITH OTHER TOOLS FOR YOUR COMPUTER WITCH ARE VERY COOL AND HELPFUL

  4. Seeing the fact that a standalone product can not provide you around the clock protection from all kind of threats. I would recommend that you have at least two types of protection installed on your computer, though both should not be of same category. Like Install a AnitVirus and Firewall Software, and addition to this go for some good Anti-Spyware Program that should give you multiple protection and a good overall performance.
