Antivirus program help!

Question

Hi to all (:

I have Avira AntiVir and also Avast installed. I've heard that it is better to only have one. I;ve read that you can actually have two installed but one as real-time? I'm kind of confused. How do i use one main one and use the other at other times but not have say my computer crash or something?

Antivir has the 'deactivate' button. If i clicked that and scanned with avast, is that ok?

Btw, i am also using spybotS&D and ad-aware on the side too.

Anti-virus programs will conflict. Deactivating one will not change this. So, remove Avira AntiVir and let Avast do its thing with all of its real-time shields and automatic updates -- it's a very good product. Spybot S&D and Ad-Aware should not be in active mode, but should be updated and used for scanning. I prefer Super AntiSpyware, but the choice is yours. Just keep everything up to date and scan regularly. And don't forget a firewall. Vista has a pretty good one, but you could consider the free Comodo Firewall instead for even better protections. Again, only one firewall can be active at a time.

Paying for security programs is foolish and unnecessary. Even PC Magazine is not much happier with Norton products than they are with Avast in its current version. And once Norton 360 is installed, it will not tolerate any other anti-anything, in my experience, which is why I dropped it after only two weeks.

You will need to install one first and deactivate that On access protection, I recommend that you deactivate the avast as the Avira has a much high detection rate (http://www.av-comparatives.org/ in the Retrospective/ProActive Test Avira got 72%. detection rate, Nod32 came in second place with a 57% detection rate, Avast Pro 28% detection rate: for the On-demand comparative Avira got a 99,6% detection rate, avast pro 97,6% , and Nod 32 a 97,7%.)To do this:

Install avast

there will be to icons in the task bar, right click and merge the two.

double click on the avast task Icon.

Click on the terminate button

close the avast

Install Avira

and that should do it,  when ever you want to use the avast start it up from the shortcut that is on the desktop of from the start menu.

To be honest you really don't need to anti-virus programs, just use the Avira, or if you prefer avast use that one.

instead of using two anti-virus programs use one with comodo firewall pro: http://www.personalfirewall.comodo.com/  it will ask you every time a program tries to do something at first and will learn it is safe and what is dangerous as you allow certain programs and block others.

Comodo Firewall Pro is completely free and is the best firewall that I have come across, it is also one of the top firewalls out there, If I remember correctly it got 1st place, you wont be disappointed with it at all.

You should NEVER have 2 real time protection antiviruses - they will see each other as an infection so the battle between them will leave your pc slow and totally unprotected. Since Avast has a more powerfull and complete protection, keep it as your active one and disable (deactivate) Avira's real time protection - keep it as a backup scanner only. If you want you can replace it with BitDefender free, is just that - an on-demand scanner, no buttons or configurations to change.

SpybotS&D and Ad-Aware are very good at what are they doing (antispyware) and don't interfere with the AV's.

No matter what you do, do not touch Norton, AVG or other similar, useless c**p

In fact, it is highly dangerous for your system to use two antiviruses at once. They may consider each other viruses and try to eliminate each other with sad consequences usually. You can use two of them, however, if you don't load both of them at start-up and deactivate one before using another. Still, I wouldn't recommend it.  

At the same time it is possible to use Spybot and Ad-aware simultaneously. Surprisingly, they tolerate each other.

OK... forget about everything. You should have two good anti viruses. i suggest you uninstall al the **** you have on your computer (antiviruses), and install AVG Free the latest version (google it) as well as some other free anti virus unless you would like to spend money on one. even if you only have AVG, unless you download a lot and surf lots of unusual sites, you'll be fine. g'dluck.

if you got this free, then its not going to do anything, only the antivirus programs that you pay for will protect your pc, i've got norton 360, it coes with a free USB when you buy and is only $130. It is perfect, it protects your pc against trojans, scans your emails for viruses and much more. But also as an extra download AVG 8.0 (its free), before you go inot websites it scans them for your safety.

just use AVG 8.0 anti-virus, it's free. and a very goood software!! forget those anti-virus software you are using, install them.

You DONT NEED all those antivirus programs for home use. Uninstall all other antivirus programs and download and install AVG 8.0 and run a full scan. then heal any viruses found. Keep it simple.

Please use only one anti-virus.It can cause conflict.

Uninstall one anti-virus and just always use one AV.
