  1. -restart the computer and repeatedly press F8 while it's booting up

-when you see the boot menu, select safe mode with networking

-download Malwarebytes, install it, update the definition, and run full scan

-delete all found infections and spywares and restart the computer like you normally would to complete the process

-the computer should be clean now but I would recommend to download and install spybot search and destroy, after you install it, dont forget to update it and run full scan

-both software are free and can be downloaded by following the links below:

    Malwarebytes:http://www.malwarebytes.org/mbam.php

    Spybot Search & Destroy: http://www.safer-networking.org/en/spybo...

  2. Download and scan your computer with the the following free software in order one by one, delete what ever they find should leave your PC free of infections:

    Malwarebytes: http://www.malwarebytes.org/mbam.php

    SuperAntispyware: http://www.download.com/SUPERAntiSpyware...

    SmitfraudFix: http://siri.geekstogo.com/SmitfraudFix.e...

    Avast Anti-Virus: http://www.download.com/Avast-Home-Editi...

Once you have removed the infections keep Avast and download Comodo Pro firewall, then switch to Firefox 3 if you are browsing with IE this should stop it returning. (links on my profile)

  3. Firstly, switch off System Restore, you can restart this once your computer is clean. You do this because a lot of infections hide in these restore points and reactivate themselves after you have scanned your computer. Start with the SUPERantispyware then do the others.

You don't say what protection you have so I'll assume none. If you have anti-virus software on your computer already you can skip the Avast suggestion although I still do recommend this.

I always recommend the following be stored on computers and install them myself on any I repair.

    Avast Home Edition http://avast.com

Run a full scan once a month. I find this the best free anti-virus software

    SUPERantispyware Free Edition  http://superantispyware.com

Update and run a full scan once a week.

    Spybot Search and Destroy http://safer-networking.org

Update, Immunize and scan once a week.

    ccleaner http://ccleaner.com

Run the Cleaner scan and remove all it finds

Run the Registry scan and fix all issues but repeat this until nothing is detected.

    Run this daily.

    Comodo Firewall http://www.personalfirewall.comodo.com/

Some people just prefer the Windows one but this is better.

Check that you don't need to defragment monthly and also run a Disk Cleanup monthly too.

Feel free to email me if I can be of further help

  4. You should get rid of it with an effective virus remover.

You can run Bitdefender's free online scan which doesn't need to be downloaded http://www.bitdefender.com/scan8/ie.html

If you know when you got the virus, you can do a system restore to a time before the virus was on your system. This article tells you how to run it from safe mode http://bertk.mvps.org/html/safemode.html

Your best protection in general is a complete internet security suite such as Bitdefender or Norton internet security 2008.

The only effective way to block it from coming up from some damaged website that you visit is to activate parental controls in your internet security or parental control software and block the site. This will prevent you from seeing it and getting it again.

  5. Give me a few mins to type this out, remove this just about every day at work people been getting these like children diggin in the candy bowl. also been removing AV2009 as well.

This is to manually remove it, incase of spyware programs miss some stuff and you still have popup problems. Otherwise try spybot from download.com, its a good program.

Right click on the task bar and you should see Task manager, left click on that.

Click on the processes tab, usually the 2nd one. Click on image name and that will put them all in abc order.

Look down the list for anything dealing with AV2008 or you may find some odd names that does not spell out anything. might find some that start with lph or rh(something) but they are about 10 character longs. Right click on the files name and then do an end process. Write down the files names that you end the process of because the files will need to be deleted.

Sometimes the files names are different. If you are not sure that the file name you have is the spyware and want to make sure, search for the file on the internet and see what comes up. A lot of the times, it will pull up what the file is. Be careful, you do not want to delete the wrong thing, it could mess up your computer.

Now that the process have been ended, need to remove the files. Bring up the search, click on start, and search. Type in the files names and then do  a search and delete them.

Click on start, run and type in msconfig.exe

Click on the start up tab (usually last tab).

Look down the list and uncheck anything that looks like AV2008 or it made have a odd name that starts with lpd or something but its just letters, it dont spell out a word. Once you uncheck them, click on OK.  Let it reboot the computer.

When the computer comes back up. You will see a message up from being in msconfig, put a check mark in do not show, and then click on ok.

As far as your background, open up any picture and you should be able to right click on the picture and then left click on set as wall paper.
