The program antivirus2009 somehow installed itself. I don't even know how it got installed on my computer but it is there and s******g with my laptop big time. Like making the screen turn blue all the time, exiting my programs, a whole load of stuff. My computers windows defender keeps saying I need to remove it but I don't know how. Does anyone have any idea how to remove it for free? I found one website that would remove it but it would have cost like 30.00 dollars.

  1. It is a rogue anti-spyware program similar to the well known XP Antivirus rogue application.

    Download and install SmitfraudFix

    http://siri.geekstogo.com/SmitfraudFix.p...

After you download and install restart your PC in safe mode with networking

    http://www.pchell.com/support/safemode.s...

Double-click on the SmitfraudFix.exe icon then follow the screen instructions. Option #2 should be selected in this case.

When you are prompted with “Do you want to clean the registry ?”, simply answer “Y”.

While in safe mode you should download, install and run a full scan with Malwarebytes

    http://www.malwarebytes.org

  2. First open Task Manager and open Processes. You will find one process called "vav.exe". End it. You will also find processes like "1.exe" "2.exe" etc. End them. Do not end anything else.

In your Program Files folder you need to delete 2 folders - "ANtivirus 2009" and "PCHealthCenter"

Then click on Start and then on Run. Type msconfig and open it. Open Startup. Scroll to find "vav.exe". Uncheck it. Also find "win1.exe" "win2.exe" etc. Uncheck them all. These might be repeated - same procedure. Do not modify anything else. Reboot when prompted for it.

You also need to delete some files from some hidden folders. I do not remember the names now. Install Kaspersky AntiVirus and run a full system scan. You should be all set.

  3. In reality that Antivirus 2009 is a malware. Meaning it's actually the one that's causing the problems but making you think that it was other viruses, malware and stuff.

To remove it, do these things....

Well, first download Clamwin Antivirus :

    http://www.clamwin.com/

    Then this one :

Malwarebytes Anti Malware (Ironic name isn't it?) :

    http://www.malwarebytes.org/

Then use them. I'm quite sure it will remove that fake antivirus. It removed mine. =)

They're also free. So no need to pay anything either. =)

  6. Antivirus XP 2009 is a new rogue anti-spyware program that is advertised through Trojans and other malware. It is advertised in the form of fake security alerts and warnings on web sites that state you are infected with malware or are being attacked in some manner. When you click on these ads, it will automatically download the installer for Antivirus XP 2009 and install it on your machine. In some cases, this program is installed without any intervention at all from you.

  7. Antivirus 2009 is a rogue antispyware program, you should stick to the known programs and never download things that have popped up from internet explorer especially if they tell you that you are at risk or infected in an internet explorer window!

Try using SuperAntispyware, Malware Bytes AntiMalware and Malware Bytes RogueRemover to remove any infections you might have. These are all free to use, for both scanning *AND* removal, the difference is usually rogue software will scan, but not remove until you pay.

  18. You have a SMITFRAUD VIRUS, which gives false warnings of infections - as well as messages in the SYSTRAY (down by the clock).  This virus requires a special program and specific steps to remove.  Below is information from Bleeping Computer for a FREE removal tool.

    What this program does:

SmitFraud has become a term to mean an infection where fake security alerts appear in your taskbar stating that you are infected. These alerts tend to be accompanied by a rogue anti-spyware program installed on your computer without your consent. Clicking on one of these fake security alerts will either bring you to a home page where you can purchase other fraudulent software or will install automatically, without your permission, one of these software.

Tools Needed for this fix: SmitFraudFix.zip which is available for download at:
