Anton Ferdinand wanted, Corluka looking to recover and Chris Smalling to learn from Rio Ferdinand
Sunderland defender Anton Ferdinand is facing the possibility of being arrested and can be held in custody. Ferdinand failed to make it to the court for a hearing, and now a warrant has been issued for him.
The younger brother of England captain Rio Ferdinand was scheduled to make an appearance in front of a Newcastle Magistrate on Monday. He was convicted for using a cell phone while driving, and now he may be arrested for not showing
up. The former West Ham United defender may also be facing a ban on driving, as he already had 9 points on his license when he was stopped by the police.
Northumbria Police has confirmed that due to Ferdinand’s failure to appear in court, a warrant has been issued in his name. The spokesman also added that the warrant is non-bailable and Anton may have to spend some time behind
the bars or court Cells.
The incident in question took place on 13th of July; Anton was driving his white Range Rover on Newcastle's Central Motorway. Ferdinand was heading to to Newcastle International Airport from his home that is in Baltic
Quays in Gateshead.
Meanwhile Vedran Corluka, the Tottenham Hotspur defender who has been out of favour recently, has said that he is determined to work hard and win his place back in the team.
The centre back made his way to Spurs back in 2008, and since then made an instant impact on the team. He had become a regular feature but in recent times has not been able to get a starting spot.
The match that turned his fortunes was the Champions League match against Werder Bremen. Corluka admitted that it was a bad performance, but said that one bad day is allowed for every player. The Croatian though insisted that
there is no reason why he cannot once again make his way back in the team.
While talking to the media he said that, he does not feel that he is by any means out of form. He added that he is feeling as fit as he has ever been, and as far as performing on the pitch is concerned there are no issues.
"It is true that I have watched from the bench in a few games, but better players than me have sat there so I don't see why it would be the reason for any trauma.
"But, after three years of playing without rest, it's logical that there is a period when these things don't go the way you'd imagined." Said Corluka
The full back said that every player goes through such a phase and this is not something out of the ordinary. He said that for most of his time at Tottenham he has been in the starting lineup, so this is just different but certainly
not a thing to worry about much.
Talking about defenders, the newest recruit at Manchester United, Chris Smalling has said that he will like to someday be as good as his idol Rio Ferdinand. Smalling was signed by Sir Alex Ferguson during the summer transfer window
from Fulham. Smalling has been able to play in just one Premier League game so far, but insists that he is enjoying his time at United and has been learning a lot from Rio Ferdinand.
Chris did get a chance to get on the score sheet for the first time for United in a Carling Cup match against Scunthorpe United. He said that he is looking forward to leading the United defence alongside Ferdinand. Smalling went
on to say that one great thing about playing at a club like Manchester United is that there are so many experienced players who can teach you a lot. He added that he is not wasting anytime and is absorbing all he can from the big names around him
