Shunin has shared his thoughts about his role in the Russian national team in the forthcoming Euros and spoke about the challenges in the tournament
Dynamo Moscow goalkeeper, http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Anton-Shunin-c6283, has expressed his delight after he was included in the provisional 26-man squad for the forthcoming European tournament, Euro 2012.
Shunin admitted that he is proud to represent his national team in the upcoming event after being given the nod ahead of Rubin Kazan’s http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Vladimir-Gabulov-c36341.
“The competition among goalkeepers in Russia is immense. I think that Ryzhikov and Gabulov are worthy opponents for a place in the national team. But I am honoured to be a part of the squad for the Euros.”
“I need to prove the nation and the manager that I am a deserving candidate for a place in the starting composition. Russia have a decent chance to reach the later stages.” Shunin was quoted as saying.
Shunin, meanwhile, admitted that he will have to work very hard to impress the national team manager, d**k Advocaat, if he is to get first team action. The 25-year-old shot-stopper conceded that he is determined to fight for a
place in the starting line-up.
There is little arguing that the prolific goalkeeper has impressed in the Russian Premier League after helping the Moscow-based club in reaching the Russian Cup final, and secure UEFA Europa League qualification this season.
However, Shunin is yet to earn his reputation on the international scale, as he was not called up by Guus Hiddink to represent his country in the Euro 2008.
Shunin insisted that he is eager to impress in the upcoming continental tournament despite the availability of veteran goalkeepers, http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Vyacheslav-Malafeev-c36502, at the manager’s disposal.
Russia have been drawn against http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Greece-c2908 and Czech republic in the group stages. Shunin conceded that they have been handed a difficult group, but at the same time, he admitted that they are the favourites to reach the later
stages of the tournament.
