Antonia Lottner and Yulia Putintseva qualify for the third round – Girls’ Juniors US Open 2012
Yulia Putintseva crushes Elke Lemmens 6-1, 6-0
Second seeded, Yulia Putintseva annihilated Elke Lemmens, 6-1, 6-0 in the second round of the US Open 2012 held in the hard courts of New York.
The Kazakh dominated the game ever since the start and broke her rival’s serve in the second and sixth game of the opener. She very confidently implanted her firm footage and clinched the initial three games in a series, marking her 3-love lead. Although the Belgian secured a point in the fourth game but she seems powerless in front of her rival’s high-paced serves. Putintseva flawlessly maintained her game plan throughout the opener and marked a 6-1 score.
In the following set, the 17-year-old Belgian exhibited a relatively poor performance and could not retain her serve early on. The right-hander Kazakh contestant exhibited her brilliant skills and held her serves with a strong resolve. Towards the end, she capitalized on another break opportunity and snatched the closing set with a 6-1 score line.
The world number 146, Putintseva, committed double faults five times in the match but she had reasonable first serve accuracy of 70 and she secured five of seven serve breaks. On the other hand, Lemmens had an average first serve of 56 percent but could not pocket even a single break point out of the four precious opportunities.
Antonia Lottner defeats Kyle S. Mcphillips 6-4, 6-1
Fourth seeded German Antonia Lottner rallied past the local challenger Kyle S. Mcphillips, 6-4, 6-1 in the second round at the Flushing Meadows held at the hard courts of New York, United States.
For the first four games of the initial set, none of the players was able to hold their serves and the score line evened out to 2-2. Mcphillips edged her opponent in the subsequent games but busted her serve again, levelling the scores to 4-4. However, the 18-year-old American lost her starting confidence and German flamed her commanding ground strokes to reel off the last two games to mark a 6-4 score.
The next set proved to less challenging than the opener, the German candidate drew the first blood in the third game and marked a 2-1 lead. The American participant broke her opponent’s serve in the fourth and sixth game but was unable to sustain a lead, pulling out the set with a 6-1 win.
Although the 16-year-old German native double faulted six times but she had much higher first serve of 60 percent. In comparison, the American participant secured 37 percent serve accuracy, converting three of the five break points gifted to her.
