Antonini reveals referee apologised to him and happy with Milan’s win: UEFA Champions League news
A.C Milan full-back, http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Luca-Antonini-c22503, has revealed that the referee apologised to him for the offside decision against him in the win over Viktoria Plzen.
Milan defeated the Czech side 2-0 in their second group stage game of the 2011/12 UEFA Champions League at the San Siro on Wednesday, September 28, 2011. http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Zlatan-Ibrahimovic-c38029 and Antonio Cassano’s second half strikes were enough
to hand the Rossoneri their first win of the ongoing campaign.
Antonini, who found himself in a wonderful opportunity to score in the first-half, was ruled offside by the referee but the replays showed the Italian was within his lines. The former Sampdoria star believes that he was behind
the line and it was never an offside. However, the referee apologised for his mistake during the half-time interval.
While talking to the reporters, Antonini said, “At the end of the first half the referee apologised to me for that offside decision. It was impossible, as I was coming from behind the line,”
The 29-year-old is delighted with his team’s win but believes they should have sealed the game much earlier. The defender added that his team could have scored a couple of goals in the opening half but he is happy with the result.
Antonini also praised the opposition for putting up a courageous performance and admitted that they troubled his side on the counter attack.
“It was important to get the three points today, we managed it and kept a clean sheet. We could’ve sealed it before the break with all the chances we created, but did well to continue pushing in the second half. To begin with we
suffered under Viktoria’s counter-attacks, as we wanted to open them up straight away and became unbalanced.”
The former Empoli defender also welcomed prolific striker, Ibrahimovic, back into the starting line-up and believes that the Swedish international is a huge asset to the team. Antonini hailed the strike pairing of Ibrahimovic and
Cassano and is hoping for big results in the future.
Milan will play their next game away to Juventus on October 2nd, 2011.
