In a thrilling encounter, Philippines’ Antonino Gadi will be up against Paul Jefferson Vivas in the Men’s Singles final of the 2011 MVP Sports Foundation - Bingo
Bonanza event, in Philippines, on Saturday, June 4.
In the Men’s Singles semi-final matches, Antonino proved his worth against Peter Gabriel Magnaye in a two-set match which took 34 minutes, whereas, Vivas worked really hard to
chuck-out Kevin Alfred Dalisay in a superb three-set fight of 49 minutes.
The top seed, Gadi, made some mistakes in the first phase of the opening set, which helped Peter Gabriel to control the game. However, Gadi lifted the level of his game by increasing
the pace of his strokes. He started to move quicker in all corners of the court and was successful in the end, as he won the set in 20 minutes by a 21-18 score.
The second game was easier for the top seed as his opponent became quite slow. Gadi grabbed the opportunity and kept his speed at the highest level. He remained dominant in the
whole set and grabbed it in 14 minutes, by a commanding difference of 21- 6. The 34-minute contest ended with a 21-18 and 21-6 score on the board.
In the second Men’s Singles semi-final of the championship, Vivas played better badminton against a spirited Kevin, who showed immense potential when he left his opponent struggling
in the first-set and won it in 19 minutes, by a 17-21 margin.
However, Vivas made a tremendous comeback in the second game, where he eliminated all of the mistakes he made in the previous set. He picked the bird early from all areas and
built more pressure on his rival by playing aggressive badminton. Vivas won the set in 16 minutes with a difference of 21-14.
In the final set, it was Vivas who proved that he is the better player as he finished up the game by winning it in just 14 minutes, with a big difference of 21-12. The concluding
result of the 49-minute semi-final battle was 17-21, 21-14 and 21-12.
