Antonino Gadi grabs the Men’s Singles title in the 2011 MVP Sports Foundation Bingo Bonanza
Philippines’ ace shuttler, Antonino Gadi grabbed the Men’s Singles title as he crushed Paul Jafferson Vivas in the title match of the 2011 MVP Sports Foundation Bingo Bonanza in Davao City, Philippines, on Wednesday, August 3.
The final match of this event, which was the third episode of Philippines’ national circuit, was a wonderful battle between the number one and two seed of the country. However, Gadi overwhelmed Paul Jefferson by playing top quality badminton for three sets,
in a total of 60 minutes.
The opening game of the match was absolutely thrilling as both shuttlers were relying on an attacking game and the cracking sounds of the smashes from both sides could be heard even at the main entrance of the hall. The game progressed tightly in the first
half of the first game and at the end Paul Jefferson was ahead at 11-10.
After the interval, both shuttlers remained close again until the score entered the crucial stage of 18-18. At this stage, Paul Jefferson utilised his experience and managed to score the ending points to win the fight with a tight margin of 21-19, in 26
minutes.
The second set of the game was quite surprising for the second seed as Gadi made a terrific comeback in the match. He remained in good control of the game by playing to his maximum skill. Paul Jefferson made numerous unforced errors in this set of the match
and eventually lost the set with a big difference of 12-21, in just 16 minutes.
The deciding set of this Men’s Singles final battle progressed closely in the starting points as both shuttlers were playing at the same level. However, Gadi started to build his speed as the game progressed.
Gadi became more aggressive by hitting more smashes which earned him a much needed victory in the final set and he finished it off in 18 minutes with the score of 21-14. The three-set title match ended in 60 minutes with the result of 19-21, 21-12 and 21-14.
