Philippines’ top shuttler, Antonino Gadi penetrated into the Men’s Singles quarter-final as he crushed Carlos Antonie Cayanan in their round-of-16 contest, in the third leg of the 2011 MVP Sports Foundation Bingo Bonanza, held in Davao City, Philippines,
on Sunday, July 31.
Gadi, who is the top seed in the Men’s Singles draw of the tournament, proved his superiority in the sport by playing a world-class game against Cayanan, who completely failed to even put up some sort of resistance throughout the match. Gadi clinched the
battle in straight games without facing any problem from his opponent in both sets.
In the first game of this Men’s Singles round-of-16 match, the top seed opened his campaign in an incredible manner, as he established a wonderful margin of 11-1 in the opening half. Cayanan found himself completely helpless against the firing Gadi, who
was playing on a different level of the game.
After the break, Gadi remained consistent in scoring one point after the other by keeping the pace of the game at the highest level. He never lost his focus in the game as his strokes were landing perfectly in the right areas of his challenger’s court. The
top seed took no time in finishing-off the first set and won it by an unbelievable margin of 21-3, in just 8 minutes.
In the following game, Cayanan played a little better badminton in the starting points as he geared up his speed to return the fast and perfectly placed strokes of his rival. However, Gadi took control of the game again and started to play in his usual style.
He reached at 11-4 at the one-minute interval in the second game.
After the break, the top seed put event more speed to keep his opponent under extreme pressure. Cayanan failed to return the bird as he remained miles away from the perfectly placed strokes of his challenger.
Gadi clinched the second game in only 12 minutes with the margin of 21-7. This 20-minute one-sided pre-quarter-final battle ended with the score of 21-3 and 21-7.
