Striker, Antonio Cassano, has thanked goalkeeper, http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Gianluigi-Buffon-c14833, for handing him the captaincy armband in the 2-1 friendly win over World Champions, Spain, in his homeland, Bari.
The A.C Milan is really happy with the honour and is extremely thankful to the Italian skipper, Buffon, who made him feel like this. The 29-year-old revealed that he was surprised to see the armband on his seat and thought someone has put it mistakenly, but after knowing that it was an honour given to him, he was over the moon.
The former Sampdoria star praised the Juventus goalkeeper and admitted that he is not only a great player but also a wonderful person.
Talking to the reporters Cassano said, “I want to thank Gigi, the Coach and my teammates for that wonderful gesture. I really did not expect to wear the captain’s armband. I went for the warm-up and came back to the locker room to see the armband on my seat.”
“I said they’d made a mistake, but it turns out they’d talked it over beforehand to give me this amazing gift. Aside from being a great captain and a player, Gigi is a great man."
Cassano is extremely happy with his performance on the night and believes that it will go down as one of the memorable matches in his career. The Italian is getting heavily criticized for putting on some extra weight this summer but he believes that despite adding 3-4 kg’s of weight, he is still not finished and wants to continue playing for his club and country.
The striker also hit back at the critics and admitted that everyone praises him after a good game but after one bad game they all claim that his career is finished. The forward is looking to establish himself as a first team regular in Cesare Prandelli’s setup and is desperate to play in the Euro 2012.
