The Bianconeri President states that the investigation from Cremona is extremely worrying for the world of football; insists that the accused should also be respected along with the investigators
Juventus President Andre Agnelli has
voiced his support for Antonio Conte, after the tactician’s home was searched as a part of the match-fixing probe.
The Bianconeri manager has been accused of having knowledge about the fixing of a match during his stint with Siena, and his home was raided by police for a search operation, while he was away on a vacation.
Agnelli stated that the picture that is being unearthed by the investigation is an ugly one, and insisted that such incidents are a matter of worry for the world of football.
The Bianconeri patron stated that he is closely following the developments of the probe, and insisted that he does not believe that Conte could be a part of the match-fixing.
The Old Lady chief pointed out that the former Siena tactician has been accused of playing a very insignificant role in the betting scandal, and stated that the manager has nothing to worry about.
The Italian businessman revealed that he has known Conte for more than two decades, and insisted that he is intimately aware of the strength of character held by the Bianconeri coach.
While talking to the press, the 36-year-old said:
“The picture that is emerging in the light of the investigation from Cremona is extremely worrying for the world of football. We are all following it with apprehension and bitterness. However, I do not think that Antonio Conte
is part of this bleak picture. The role attributed to him is insignificant. We know what he has achieved this season and I have personally known him for 20 years – I am aware of his human qualities.”
Juventus were stripped off two of their numerous Scudettos and relegated to Serie C , due to an alleged involvement in a similar scandal in 2006.
Agnelli stated that while it is important to respect the investigators, it is also imperative for everyone to respect the accused until they are proven guilty, and give them a fair chance to defend themselves.
