The Bianconeri chief insists that the Rossoneri manager’s mocking attitude fuelled his desire for the Scudetto; criticises the media for presenting his Parma rant in the wrong light.
Antonio Conte has revealed that Massimiliano Allegri’s over-confidence in the run to the Scudetto urged him to try even harder to beat the Milan outfit.
The Bianconeri manager led his team to the league victory, and took some time to reflect upon some of the important events on the road to the Serie A crown.
The Old Lady boss remembered Massimiliano Allegri confidently announcing that AC Milan will win the season to place the second star on their jersey. The former Juventus player stated that he was surprised to see the Rossoneri so
confident in their quest for Serie A glory, and insisted that the experience was a motivating one for him.
While talking to the press, the 42-year-old said:
“I also remember hearing Allegri say in a press conference that Milan would secure their second ‘star’ on the jerseys. At that moment I thought: ‘d**n, they really are convinced they can win the Scudetto.’”
Conte insisted that he has nothing to regret about the season, not even his rant after the game against Parma. The manager stated that his statement about the standard of refereeing was wrongly exaggerated in the media, and he
never said anything wrong in the tirade.
The Bianconeri coach pointed out that up to that point in the league, almost all the teams had criticised the umpires in one way or the other. The tactician stated that unlike all others, he never criticised the referees, but just
stated that Juventus deserve a fair treatment, but the matter was blown out of proportion by the press.
“At that moment I felt the duty to say that, but the media tore us apart because it seemed as if we shouldn’t speak up. No, everyone talks and so Juventus can talk too.” He added.
The controversy reached its pinnacle when Sully Muntari’s shot passed the Bianconeri’s goalline, without being noticed by the referee, and the disallowed goal led to a 1-1 stalemate with AC Milan.
Antonio Conte insisted that what happened on the pitch favoured what he has been saying. He stated that the team had been winning consistently at that moment, and thus the controversy did not affect them much.
The Bianconeri manager stated that he has always said that the best team will win the Scudetto, and insisted that Juventus have proved with their display on the field, that they are the finest Serie A side of the season.
