Antonio Cromartie believes he is New York Jets second best wide receiver – NFL News
After being told to play at wide receiver by New York Jets’ Head Coach Rex Ryan, Antonio Cromartie has expressed his thoughts about playing at the new position.
Talking on ESPN's "First Take," Cromartie was asked at what number he would rank himself in the wide receiving position of the Jets. He said:
"I think I'd put myself as second. I haven't really played it in the past four or five years, but I can put myself as the second just with raw ability and talent going out there, I think, me separating and being a more physical guy out there on the outside."
Although Cromartie has played six seasons at cornerback, he has been put up in Tony Sparano’s new offensive system.
Rex Ryan broke the news on Friday, saying Cromartie would spend some game playing at the receiving post.
Jets have only one absolute quality wide receiver in the offensive line-up, Santonio Holmes, who has proven his worth as the backbone of the receiving corps.
Yet, having only one outstanding wide receiver does not mean that the offence line becomes threatening.
Jets desperately need some quality a the position as the bunch of players designated to play there have been getting attention for various reasons.
Chaz Schilens has been unable to give good performances due to injuries while Stephen Hill has shown good talent, but has lack of experience.
On the other hand, Jeremy Kerley has been unimpressive this offseason. While comparing himself with other wide receivers in the team, Cromartie said:
"Kerley is a more of a slot receiver, he's a slot guy. Stephen Hill is a younger guy that can get down the field. For me, I can run every single route in the route tree. I believe I'm one of the best receivers on the football team, next to Santonio Holmes."
Although the decision to put Cromartie in the offensive line looks desperate, his confidence in his skills gives an impression that Jets can rely on him when needed.
