Antonio DeMarco-Jorge Linares II title-bout evident if Jorge nails Sergio Thompson - Boxing news
Antonio DeMarco, the current WBC lightweight champion, is close to finalise a 12-round skirmish in which he will defend his precious title against the man from whom he took it in the first place, Jorge Linares, the former WBC lightweight champion.
According to the details, both camps are at the brink of sealing the contract for the epic clash and the venue and date for the bout has already been announced. Gary Shaw of Gary Shaw promotions, promoter DeMarco, has penned down the whole contract unanimously
with Richard Schaefer of Golden Boy promotions, promoter Jorge Linares.
Antonio-Linares II is one of the most anticipated bouts that boxing fanatics have longed to witness. Antonio, 26, entered the ring as the number one contender on October 15, 2011 to challenge Jorge Linares for his WBC lightweight gold.
The bout started and Jorge was defending his gold successfully when DeMarco unleashed his real fury and brutally battered the champion Jorge. Linares’ whole face was filled with lacerations and got bloodied by his own blood.
The blood hampered Jorge’s performance and Antonio was able to collect an 11th round knockout win to become the new WBC lightweight champion eventually relinquishing Jorge of his precious gold.
Since then Jorge did not request for a rematch and went to rehabilitation. Jorge is currently scheduled to bout Sergio Thompson, a skirmish which will decide as to who will take on the champion Antonio.
Antonio, on the other hand, recently defended his newly acquired gold against Miguel Roman and gifted his fellow Mexican the career’s first knockout loss.
Gary Shaw, DeMarco’s promoter excitedly put forth his thoughts and details of the upcoming engagement and said, “DeMarco’s dream of becoming a world champion was fulfilled when he beat Jorge Linares and he’s not going to let anyone take it away from him.
The fact the he knocked out Roman for the first time in his career means he’s all business.”
Shaw continued and said, “I’m working out the details for this fight (with Linares) to happen because I know the fans want to see these two warriors go at it again. DeMarco never backs down from the toughest challenges and he'll be ready for Linares come
fight night.”
The bout is expected to take place on July 7, 2012 and the ring will be stretched most probably at Home Depot Center situated in Carson, California, United States. All Linares now has to do is beat Sergio to be the number one contender and the boxing world
will experience an epic headliner on Showtime’s fight card.
DeMarco has 27 wins, two losses, and one draw in total 30 skirmishes and Jorge, also known as El Nino de Oro, has 31 wins and two losses in a total 33 bouts.
