Antonio Lascuna gets into the share of the lead at the Mercuries Taiwan Masters
Antonio Lascuna of Philippines maintained his form in the second round of the Mercuries Taiwan Masters and recorded a hard-battled one-over par 73, to share the top spot on Friday, September 28, 2012.
Right from the beginning of the tournament, Lascuna is focusing on his short game, rather than attacking the pins while reaching the green.
Talking to the reporters after the first round on Thursday, he stated that the course conditions were really tough and it was difficult to make accurate calculations off the tee.
Therefore, it was essential for all the players to work on saving pars, rather than trying to create birdie chances and concede bogeys in the end.
During the second round, the Filipino kept on working on his plan of using the defensive strategy, which paid him off in the end.
“Like I said before, you need to be very patient here,” he said after  round two. “Today was a test of that because it was raining and the wind was blowing from all directions. I just kept calm and cool and it worked in the round. It wasn’t an easy day but
you must expect all these type conditions when you come to Chinese Taipei”.
Despite registering an over par score, he still managed to get into the share of the lead, with a one-over par half-way score.
He now plans to keep the momentum going into the remaining two rounds, in a bid to record the first ever Asian Tour victory of his career.
Siddikur Rahman, the only Bangladeshi player to record a victory on the Asian Tour, recorded another 72 in a row to share the sixth spot on the leaderboard.
According to him, the playing conditions at the Taiwan Golf & Country Club were really tough and it was difficult to post an under-par score.
“I was one-under after nine holes but couldn’t putt well. I hit the ball very well. This is definitely one of the toughest conditions that I’ve played in my career,” he said.
There were only five players who were successful in breaking the par mark after two rounds, and all of them shared the lead, entering the weekend.
