Antonio Margarito congratulates Manny Pacquiao

After failing to attend the post-fight news conference, Antonio Margarito finally spoke about his lopsided defeat against pound-for-pound king Manny Pacquiao on Saturday night 13 November
at the Dallas Cowboys Stadium.

Margarito, who was immediately rushed to the hospital after sustaining severe injuries during the 12-round gruelling bout, thanked Bob Arum for giving him an opportunity and congratulated
Pacquiao, whom he tagged as the “best fighter in the world”.

“I would like to congratulate Manny Pacquiao for his win on Saturday Night,” said Margarito in a statement released on Tuesday 16 November. “It was a tough and difficult fight for me and
I hope the fans enjoy our battle at Cowboys Stadium. I also want to thank Bob Arum for always believing in me and for giving me the opportunity to fight Manny Pacquiao.”

Margarito, who will undergo surgery for his fractured right orbital bone, also added that he did his best, but Pacquiao’s superb skill and blinding speed was simply too much for him, although
he said that he is proud for not quitting, despite all the blows he took from Pacquiao.

“I gave it all I had, but unfortunately I was not able to get the victory over the best fighter in the world today...As I said before the fight, I was never going to quit and tried to win
this fight to the very last minute. We had a great training camp and I want to thank trainer Robert Garcia for a great job.”

Besides the fractured orbital bone, Margarito also needed six stitches for the cut he sustained to his right cheek, and three more stitches in his right eyebrow. Pacquiao, on the other hand,
also spent time in the hospital to receive treatment for his bruises and sore wrist, although he did not sustain severe injuries like Margarito had after the fight.

Pacquiao, who is also a member of Philippines’ House of Representatives and tagged as the “fighting congressman”, made another history for winning his eighth world title in eight different
divisions.
Despite all the talks about his retirement, Pacquiao declared that he is not yet ready to hang up his gloves, and he is ready to fight Floyd Mayweather if and when the American boxer finally
decides to face him.
