Antonio Margarito down with Achilles injury – Boxing News
Former welterweight champion Antonio Margarito will not be competing anymore against Abel Perry on May 26 at the Casino Del Sol in Tucson, as the pugilist is down with an Achilles injury. This was supposed to be Margarito’s middleweight debut against Perry,
but now it seems like the superstar will have to wait a little more to give his debut.
Top Rank’s vice president revealed the story saying that the fight can be rescheduled to July 21 depending on Margarito’s recovery. He revealed about the injury saying, “His Achilles was really sore and he went to the doctor and he said not to run for about
a month. The doctor said if he had continued to train it would most likely have resulted in an Achilles tear, so May 26 is out. Now we will wait to see when he can go, but we hope it's sometime this summer.
Margarito will be coming to the ring to make his comeback after a devastating loss to Miguel Cotto via a tenth round knockouts on December 3. The loss was not only devastating for Margarito physically, but also he lost his dignity and rapport with it. The
first match between both the pugilist was won by Margarito. However, the pugilist was later charged with using banned substance under his glove wraps due to which even Cotto claimed that he used the same against him. The rematch was Margarito’s test to see
if he could beat Cotto without the hand wraps, and he could not.
Not only this, Margarito had undergone a severe left eye bone surgery months before the bout. Cotto had taken full advantage of his weakness and went for his eye. By round ten, Margarito wanted to fight more but his corner called off the fight saying his
eye bone was hurt badly.
For now, Margarito needs a chance to prove his mettle to the world. However, with his recent injuries, it seems like he will never be able to get back his glory. Margarito is not the same anymore. Now he even has a foot injury, which will impede his speed
and footwork. Another shot to the eye and the Mexican pugilist will be knocked out again.
