Antonio Margarito thinks he will outdo Joshua Clottey in upcoming Manny Pacquiao bout
Antonio Margarito says that anything Joshua Clottey did to Manny Pacquiao he’ll do much better in order to win when he takes on “Pacman” November 13 at the Cowboys Stadium in Dallas, Texas.
The Mexican fighter known as “The Tijuana Tornado” sat down with boxingscene.com recently to offer his thoughts on the upcoming fight that will determine his fate as a professional fighter.
Margarito admitted few are putting their money on him to win, but said ultimately it doesn’t matter because he’s been in similar situations before. “It was the same thing when I faced Miguel Cotto. Nobody did anything for me, but I told everyone that I
would win, and wouldn't look bad. And now it will be the same thing, as I'll beat Manny Pacquiao too."
Discussing his opponent, Margarito acknowledged the Philippine congressman’s achievements in and out of the ring, but said that recent performances show him to be a beatable fighter (at junior middleweight). He spoke of Pacquiao’s last fight against Joshua
Clottey, and said that if Clottey could hurt him the few times he put pressure on, he’ll be able to do the same, only much better and more routinely. Fights, he said, essentially come down to “a matter of style [...] Clottey was connecting on him and I beat
Clottey and the same thing with Miguel Cotto,” Margarito said. “I am aware that he is very fast, nobody denies it. He might hit me with five to one at first, but I will gradually break him down and knock him out, as I did with Miguel Cotto. I'm too strong
for him. "
Margarito banks on wearing down the smaller Pacquiao and reaping the rewards in the later rounds. He is generally a slower fighter who comes on in later rounds, showcasing remarkable endurance and a steel chin. On the other side, Freddie Roach and the
rest of Pacquiao’s camp think that Pacquiao will run circles around Margarito, and be able to avoid his sting for the fight.
