Antonio Margarito training camp heats up
In the thick of training for his upcoming November 13 bout against seven-division titlist Manny Pacquiao, Antonio Margarito reportedly 'looks great' and will be prepared to bring the action to the Cowboys Stadium in Dallas, Texas.
The 'Tijuana Tornado' is heading to Oxnard, California to continue preparations after a successful run in South El Monte, California. For the past two weeks, emphasis was placed on calisthenics and roadwork, due to the mountainous terrain.
Margarito’s trainer Robert Garcia confirmed, “We got a lot done in the first two-weeks and Tony looks great. I love his focus and intensity and our first phase of training camp was an eye opener for him and me. The first two weeks have been really terrific
and productive.”
The plan for the next phase of training in Oxnard is to continue with intensive road work, as well as add sparring to the mix. Margarito will utilise the beach and waters to run and swim in.
The fighter seemed to intuit the responsibility put on him for the bout, saying, “I know how important this fight is to my career and to all of Mexico. That is why I will prepare like never before and will defeat Manny Pacquiao, proving to everyone that
I am one of the best fighters in the world.”
Margarito is a three time welterweight champion. He will be squaring off against Pacquiao for the vacant WBC junior middleweight title, and is known distinctively for his aggressive style, superhuman stamina, and chin. For instance, in a 2006 welterweight
bout with to-be champion Joshua Clottey, Margarito set a CompuBox all-time record, throwing 1675 total punches in one fight.
Margarito is looking to redeem himself after a defeat to 'Sugar' Shane Mosley in January 2009. The fight was marred by a hand wrap controversy that put Margarito out of action for the better part of a year.
