  1. Antonio Margarito.

Berto is a great boxer, who's quick, strong and skillfull.  But I think Margarito would be too much for the smaller fighter.

Berto no doubt has a slicker and quicker style of boxing compared to Cotto, which was what gave Cotto the advantage in the early rounds.  But in my opinion, boxing is not the best way to defeat Margarito, unless you got skills like Mayweather.  Even then, it's still difficult (why do you think he retired?).

The blueprint to defeat Margarito lies in the Punchstats and summary of Margarito vs. Williams:

Paul Williams boxed Margarito, but he did so while staying close, and throwing more punches.  Williams had more than 1000 punches thrown by the end of the fight, which translates to over 100 punches per round.  To defeat Margarito, you need to be able to box slickly, while keeping your work-rate up by throwing punches in bunches.  This is easier for a taller fighter with longer reach to do than it is with a shorter fighter.  This is a huge disadvantage for Berto.

If Berto wants to fight Margarito in the future, I suggest his management put him up against Cintron as a tune-up.  But as good as Berto is, I'd rather see him fight Cotto as of now.  That would be a more even match-up that would still pose a problem for Berto.

  2. U DONT KEEP UP WITH BOXING DO U? MARGARITO LOST 4 FIGHTS WHEN HE WAS BARELY COMING UP THEN AGAISNT LUCKY PAUL WILLIAMS WITCH SHOULD BEEN AT LEAST A LUCKY DRAW A SPLIT DECISION FOR MARGARITO...FFF ANDRE BERTO HIS OVER RATED MARGARITO HASNT EVEN CALLED HIM OUT CUZ NOT A GREAT CHALLENGE.. MARGARITO SHOULD FIGHT PAUL WILLIAMS KO HIS AASS.. THEN GIVE CLOTTEY OR COTTO A REMATCH.. THERES NO BOXER THAT CAN GIVE MARGARITO A CHALLENGE THE WAY HIS FIGHTING RIGHT NOW. BUT AN EVEN BETTER FIGHT IS AGAINST A PUSSSY MAYWEATHER.

  3. HUMBERTO SOTO!!!!! would win!

  4. you have a lot to learn.... Like the others said Margarito lost 3 matches before he was 19 years old and the others he lost on split decisions to quality fighters... Remember that Margarito has beaten more top ten fighters in the last ten years than any other Welterweight, so i think he is pretty good ...Berto is good and has excellent skills but is just too small to challenge Margarito other than running the whole fight and trying to win on points with little action but who wants to see that.... And to help you guys out there is a secret with Mexican fighters and Won Lost records has little to do with it ... Most great Mexican fighters will have losses on the records and not because the are not good but because of Mexican Pride and a willingness to fight everyone... A mexican fighter would rather get KOed trying to win than run around the ring scared to get hit trying to win on points

  5. Antonio Margarito

I just think Andre Berto is still a little green at this point. Plus, I'm not sure that Berto knows how to handle someone who is going to constantly come forward throwing everything. A lot of fights I've seen Berto in, he looks in control. Berto would be fighting for that control against Margarito.

  6. The question shoule be who would win Mayweather or Margarito.  I doubt Mayweather would ever fight him.  He fought Hatten but he can not take a punch like Margarito can.  If not Mayweather the next biggest fight for him is De la Hoya.

  7. hands down Margarito,

the pressure and body shots would ware down berto and would be tko in the 9th .

tony first 3 loses were at the age of 16 when he turn pro

4th loss was agsint santos who was 170 at fight night and tony was a welter going up to 154. they stopeed the fight in the 9th cause of tonys cut and the judges who were puerto rican give it to santos of course.

5th loss was close . tony started in the 5th round and won the last 5 out of 7 rounds. next time he should start early agasint him and win

  8. Margarito lost those 5 fights early on in his career he turned pro at sixteen the only fight he has really lost is paul williams and he came back and beat him but i think Margarito would have to much of a size advantage over andre berto margarito is 5,11 and berto is 5,7

  9. I know its going to be against the majority, but I'd pick Berto.  Cotto had a lot of success because of his handspeed - almost to the point that if he could have lasted another 5 min he could have won a decision.

Berto's handspeed is far better than Cotto's, and his overall movement is better as well; he's slicker and that speed makes his punches take more effect (not that it would make a huge difference against the granite chin that Margarito has, but it could buy him a min or so more a round of keeping the pressure lower).

I'd pick his youth and handspeed taking a 12 round decision from Margarito.
