Antonio Margarito’s trainer contradicts Freddie Roach, says Margarito will win in 11th round
Antonio Margarito’s trainer, Robert Garcia, thinks his fighter will knockout No.1 pound-for-pound in the world Manny Pacquiao in the 11th round of their November 13 fight.
Garcia disclosed the information to boxing.fanhouse.com, with the addendum that the 11th round was the one in which Margarito mulled through Miguel Cotto in 2008 to give him his first professional loss.
The comment comes at the heels of one made by Pacquiao’s trainer Freddie Roach, who stated that “Pacman” will stop “The Tijuana Tornado” by the eighth round.
Confidently, Garcia said: “[It will end with] an eleventh round knockout.”
Interestingly, Garcia suggested that once the opening bell sounds, neither he nor Roach will be able to truly help their fighters out in the ring. Though they will offer advice and motivation from round to round, the task will ultimately be deferred to
the fighters in the ring to win the fight.
"You know, inside the ring it's going to be Manny Pacquiao and Antonio Margarito. I'm not going to be able to help Margarito and Freddie Roach won't be able to do anything to help Pacquiao,” Garcia said. “We're going to give him instructions and come in
with a game plan but going against Freddie Roach is an honor because I'm going against someone who's the best and my fighter is also going against someone who's the best. It's just an honor to see how well we do. I hope we do well and pull it out," Garcia
said.
Garcia himself is in a position to talk about what it truly means to be in the middle of the ring with another fighter. Unlike Roach, who had a relatively unsuccessful career as a fighter before becoming a trainer, Garcia enjoyed success as a fighter.
In 37 professional fights he was defeated only three times, all of which were against formidable, top opposition.
