Antonio Piedra victorious at the Vuelta a Espana stage 15
Antonio Piedra Perez has finally broken his silence at the Vuelta a Espana and the Spaniard bagged his first ever Grand Tour victory during the 186.5 kilometre stage 15 of the race.
The cyclist rode exceptionally well during the long pursuit to Lagos de Covadonga and took a little over 5 hours to receive the honours.
Ruben Perez Moreno of Team Euskaltel-Euskadi fell 2 minutes and 2 second short at the second position with Lloyd Mondory of Team AG2R La Mondiale, David De La Fuente Rasilla and Pablo Lastras Garcia of Team Movistar securing the next four positions respectively.
Lloyd Mondory of Team AG2R La Mondiale, won the 64.3 kilometre first and the 164.3 kilometre second sprints of the contest.
David De La Fuente Rasilla of Team Caja Rural succeeded at the first and the second mountains of the event while Antonio Piedra Perez of Team Caja Rural claiming the third climb of the race.
Joaquim Rodriguez has managed to extend his overall lead to 22 seconds over Alberto Contador while Alejandro Valverde Belmonte has jumped up to the third spot.
Christopher Froome dropped down to the fourth overall spot after his declined performance during the stage 15 of the Vuelta a Espana 2012.
Daniel Moreno of Team Katusha and Robert Gesink of Team Rabobank achieved the fifth and the sixth positions in the respective order.
Joaquim Rodriguez Oliver also leads the point classifications after filling his bag with 148 important UCI points throughout the race.
Alejandro Valverde Belmonte is 21 points behind at the second position with John Degenkolb, Alberto Contador and Christopher Froome holding the next three positions.
